ARTIST BIO:

Donna Malone is a full time Brisbane based artist who is represented by Lorraine Pilgrim and Retrospect Galleries Gold Coast.

She loves to express her response to life by Drawing and collage.

Her drawings are created by an immediate, visceral response, rather than a labored, ambitious study.

Donna considers herself a Drawer foremost and draws every day wherever she happens to be.

She draws her inspiration from the vast repertoire of her life.

For example, she journal sketches in cafes and train stations, attends life drawing and portrait sessions, she makes art (drawing and collage) from random internet and vintage magazine images and creates spontaneous abstract work from impulses in her imagination and by participating in the energy around herself, including sound and music.

Donna is inspired by aliveness found in whatever form from the ordinary to the extraordinary. She works in a seemingly random and instinctual way using different mediums on vintage, found and eclectic papers, trusting where her instincts take her.

Donna believes an artist's instinct is their 'style'.

Donna's instinct is growing stronger every day.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Drawing has always been a primal and energetic experience for me,

an ongoing conversation, joyous, immediate and real.

When I am open and committed to the Drawing process,

an enormous energy moves through me.

I am then able to participate in a ‘slice of the action’

(in partnership with what is being drawn).

Yet I am, as the observer,

continually surprised as a series of

ideas in collaboration become the image.

I know the drawing is ‘done’

when it is still alive and conversing,

when it hasn’t been forced, laboured over or silenced,

when it is still breathing….
